Happy thoughts. The beach is a great place for me to unravel. When I return to California, I try as much as possible to head towards the coast. I remember one evening, when so many things seemed to be happening all at once and at the worst time possible, I drove Lucy (my burgundy '95 Nissan Sentra) to Balboa just so that I could unwind. A fresh burst of anticontext when I needed it most. balboa pier is the home for thoughts and lifebook excerpts. Thoughts come from random places, and the lifebook excerpts are some of my best journalistic writings. I hope you enjoy these intimate reflections
